Why Work With Us

A neighbor,
not a call center.

Jamey grew up in the Clearwater Valley — quarter horses, rodeo, and a grandfather who worked as a brand inspector. She started in insurance to actually sit down with farmers and ranchers, and that's still how the agency runs today.

“Jamey and her office are amazing. We were struggling to find companies that would insure roofing. Jamey was so helpful with the entire process. We moved both of our businesses as well as home life and auto to her office and she has gotten our premiums down hundreds of dollars per month. Thanks so much Jamey!”

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about working with the Jamey Hix Agency in Orofino, Idaho.

Where is the Jamey Hix Agency located?
The agency is at 152 South A Street in Orofino, Idaho 83544. We work with clients across the Clearwater Valley and North Central Idaho — Orofino, Kamiah, Pierce, Weippe, Cavendish, and the surrounding rural areas.
What types of insurance does the Jamey Hix Agency offer?
Auto, home, life, farm and ranch, and business / commercial insurance — all written through Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance. We tailor each policy to the realities of life in Clearwater County and North Central Idaho.
Who is Jamey Hix?
Jamey is the lead agent and owner. She started with Idaho Farm Bureau in 2024 and was named the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation's 2025 Agent Rookie of the Year. She grew up in the Clearwater Valley, was raised around quarter horses and rodeo, and runs the agency alongside her two daughters, Kadey and Dori.
What makes this agency different from a 1-800 number?
Three things. First, you sit down with Jamey — face to face, around her desk in Orofino — instead of bouncing through call-center menus. Second, the agency is family-run; Kadey and Dori are part of the team and know clients by name. Third, we write through Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance — an Idaho-owned company whose policies are designed for the actual risks of rural Idaho life: timberland, ranchwork, river properties, mountain roads, and wildfire country.
Who is Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance?
Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance is an Idaho-owned, Idaho-operated company founded in the late 1940s by Idaho farmers and ranchers. Claims decisions are made in Idaho, every customer is paired with a local agent, and policies are built specifically for Idaho residents — auto, home, life, farm, and business products designed for our state.
How do I file an insurance claim?
You have three options: (1) File online through the FB Hub portal at fbhub.idahofarmbureauinsurance.com, (2) Call the 24/7 Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance claims line at (888) 432-4527, or (3) Call our Orofino office directly at (208) 881-9590 and we'll walk you through it personally.
What are your office hours?
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific. Call or text (208) 881-9590 — and if Jamey or the team needs to come to you, that's an option too.
Do I need to come into the Orofino office to get insurance?
No. We handle most policy work over the phone, by text, and by email. You're welcome to swing by 152 South A Street, but quotes, policy changes, and reviews can all be done remotely. If you'd rather meet in person, just say the word — Jamey is happy to come to a farm, ranch, or job site.
Do you insure log homes and timber-frame homes in Clearwater County?
Yes — log homes are common in the Clearwater Valley and we write them regularly. Underwriters look at the year built, log species and treatment, chinking condition, the woodstove and stovepipe setup, and your defensible space against wildfire. Replacement cost for a Clearwater Valley log home is usually higher than its tax-assessed value — we make sure your dwelling limit reflects what it would actually cost to rebuild today, not what it appraised at five or ten years ago. Call (208) 881-9590 for a free log-home coverage review.
I have a place near Dworshak Reservoir or on the Clearwater River — what's different about waterfront and riverfront coverage?
A few things. Standard homeowners policies don't automatically cover docks, boathouses, or shoreline structures — those need explicit dollar limits. Flood is separate from your homeowners policy and most lenders require it for properties in mapped floodplains along the Clearwater River and Dworshak tributaries. If you keep a boat, jet ski, or pontoon at a Dworshak slip, that's a separate watercraft policy. And if you rent the place out short-term during summer or hunting season, the policy structure changes significantly. We help waterfront and riverfront clients audit all of this during free annual reviews.
How does wildfire risk affect home insurance in North Central Idaho?
Wildfire is one of the biggest factors driving premium increases in Clearwater, Idaho, and Lewis counties. Carriers score every home based on vegetation, slope, defensible space, roofing material, and access for fire crews. Homes in the timber belt around Pierce, Weippe, Cavendish, and the Clearwater drainages tend to score higher than in-town Orofino properties. We help clients understand their score, document the defensible-space and stovepipe work that earns discounts, and structure dwelling limits so a full wildfire loss is actually rebuildable at current North Central Idaho construction costs. The Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance policy includes wildfire as a covered peril — but the right coverage limit and right discount documentation are where local knowledge matters.
Do you insure timber land, hay ground, and agricultural acreage in the Clearwater Valley?
Yes — farm and ranch insurance is a core line for our agency. We write coverage for working timber operations, hay ground, cattle and horse properties, hobby farms, and small acreage across the Clearwater Valley. Farm policies typically include the dwelling, separate farm structures (barn, shop, hay shed, calving sheds), equipment and machinery, livestock, farm liability for the higher-stakes commercial scenarios, and rural exposures like ATV/UTV use on the property. The biggest mistake we see is people running farm equipment on a homeowners policy — when a claim hits, that equipment may not be covered. We help clients sort what belongs on which policy.
Do you insure horse trailers, livestock trailers, and farm trailers?
Yes. Horse trailers and livestock trailers are typically covered through your auto policy when in transit (with a few coverage extensions worth adding for the trailer itself and the livestock inside), and through your farm or homeowners policy when parked on your property. We help quarter horse, rodeo, breakaway, and team-roping clients structure this properly — there are coverage gaps in the in-transit-vs-parked transition that catch people every year, especially around show season.
What about ATVs, side-by-sides, and snowmobiles for North Central Idaho riders?
We insure ATVs, UTVs (side-by-sides), and snowmobiles through Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance for Clearwater Valley riders. Coverage typically includes liability for riding on Clearwater National Forest trail systems and forest service roads, collision and comprehensive for the unit, and optional coverage for trailers and aftermarket equipment. Bundling these with auto and home insurance usually unlocks a multi-policy discount.
I drive Highway 12 and the back roads regularly — does that affect my auto insurance?
Highway 12 along the Clearwater River, the Lolo Pass route, and the rural back roads around Pierce, Weippe, and Kamiah are part of what makes North Central Idaho great — and they're also where most auto-claim risk lives. Wildlife collisions (elk, deer, moose), gravel-road damage, winter driving conditions, and long distances between services all matter when structuring coverage. We typically recommend pushing comprehensive coverage (the part that pays for wildlife strikes) and uninsured/underinsured motorist limits higher than what coastal-state or city drivers carry. Idaho's mandatory minimums are not what we'd put a Clearwater Valley family on.
